Termite Life Cycle

About Termites

Termites are increasingly causing major structural damage to buildings throughout Australia and striking fear into the hearts of homeowners. With the home so often the major family asset, and Termite infestation being essentially insurable, homeowners are desperately seeking reliable protection against Termites.

Termites can be found throughout mainland Australia. They live in a central nest or colony, from which they forage over large areas in search of timber, thier staple diet.Once a source is found, worker Termites strip and partially digest the timber before returning to the nest to feed the colony. Some colonies may contain over one million hungry Termites, and the timber used to build homes provide a very attractive meal.Attacking in large numbers, Termites can feed to the point of leaving only a thin timber veneer, and this can happen within a matter of months.

The Australian Standards provides details for minimising the risks of Termite damage, and methods for treatment to control Termite infestations. The provision of a complete Termite barrier will impede and discourage Termite attack. The Termites can still bridge or breach barriers but they can be detected more readily during routine inspections. When was the last time you had your home inspected for Termites?

Termite Treatment

If  Termites enter a slab floor home, drilling maybe necessary to access the dirt under paths and injected under pressure with chemical, where Termites are entering. Also gardens and dirt areas would need to be dug back away from the house and treated, as this could also be entry points for Termites.
Houses on wooden stumps, chemical is applied around stumps but a thorough inspection of surrounds and sub-floor is needed prior to any treatment being done.

Termite bait stations

Installed strategically and discreetly in and around the home in the prime foraging areas, the monitoring stations provide a window into the world of the Termite.Once detected, the monitoring device is removed and replaced with bait. The Termites feed on the bait, tunnel back to the nest, unaware that the bait is detrimental to their survival. An inability to moult results in death and ultimately leads to the elimination of the colony. We can supply Sentricon on demand just contact us.
